YOU CAN'T HELP IT
05:35
|

YOU CAN’T HELP IT
It’s a beautiful world
It’s a marvelous life
Why not just live it up?
Why not?
It’s a cloud in the blue sky
it’s a cool drink of water
Why not just drink it up?
It’s a feeling inside
Like an ape in a cage
Come on and let it out
It’s a thought in my head
Like a bomb in a box on a train that won’t stop
Come on and let it go
Love is in the air
I can’t help it
I’m breathing
Freedom is a bell
You can’t help it
It’s ringing
It’s a merry-go-round
Round and round, up and down
and it’s day after day
Like an old warped record skipping
It’s the same old beef, it’s the same old gripe
It’s a heart full of grief
and it’s night after night
(CHORUS)
It’s the way that we’re standing here
Nothing holding us up
but we don’t fall down
Through the woodland we go
with the trees full of birds,
Grass and flowers below
Deeper into the woods
Into the green, web laced dark
Just keep on walking and look straight ahead
We’ll come out on the other side….

A LONESOME TIN MAN
03:36
|
|||
A LONESOME TIN MAN
THERE WAS A MAN WHO
LIVED ON A RIVER
THERE WAS A WOMAN
THEY LIVED TOGETHER
AND AS THE YEARS WHERE
THEY LIVED TOGETHER
FLOWED LIKE A RIVER
THEY LIVED TOGETHER
THERE ON THE RIVER
AND IN THIS PLACE WHERE
LIFE’S MOMENTS LINGER
AN OPENED WINDOW
BIRDS LIKE TO SING THERE
THERE ON THE RIVER
AND AS THE YEARS WHERE
THEY LIVED TOGETHER
FLOWED LIKE A RIVER
THEY LIVED TOGETHER
THERE ON THE RIVER
OUT BACK A WOODLAND
BEYOND THE TOOL SHED
QUIETLY RUSTING
A LONESOME TIN MAN

COLD SUNSHINE
03:39
|

COLD SUNSHINE
WELL THE SUN
WAS SHINING ON ONE COLD DAY
THE SUN CAN FEEL SO GOOD
BUT NOT THAT DAY
AND THERE WAS LOVE
ON THE BRIGHT WALKWAY
MY LOVE CAN FEEL SO GOOD
BUT NOT THAT DAY
I SAID SHOULD WE GO?
SHE SAID, NO PLEASE STAY
I SAID, BUT GIRL IT’S COLD
SHE SAID, PLEASE DON’T TALK
I SAID, BUT WHAT IS WRONG?
SHE TOOK MY COAT AND THEN SHE WALKED
AND SHE WAS GONE
IN THE COLD SUNSHINE
SHE WAS GONE
IN THE COLD SUNSHINE
AND NO BIRDS WERE SINGING
ON THAT COLD DAY
THE BIRDS CAN SING SO SWEET
BUT NOT THAT DAY
AND THERE WAS FROST
ON THE BRIGHT WALKWAY
A PATH I KNOW SO WELL
BUT NOT THAT DAY

BOMB IN A BOX

|

BOMB IN THE BOX
ONE MORNING WHILE MINDLESSLY MOONRAKING I HEARD A FAINT TAPPING UPON MY DOOR
SO GETTING UP TO SEE JUST WHAT THE MATTER WAS I I STEPPED BAREFOOT ACROSS THE HARDWOOD FLOOR
AND THERE UPON THE PORCH I FOUND A PACKAGE SMALL AND UNEXCEPTIONAL
ANOTHER PLAIN BROWN WRAPPED BOX ADDRESSED TO ME EVERYDAY I GET THIS SAME DELIVERY
I PICK IT UP LIKE EVERY DAY
TO PUT AWAY LIKE EVERY DAY
THEN STOP TO WATCH A TRAIN ROLL BY
A LONG, RELENTLESS TRAIN ROLL BY
BACK INSIDE I SIT DOWN AT A TABLE
TO MAKE A LIST OF THINGS THAT I SHOULD DO I LISTEN TO THE CLOCK GO TIC-TOC TIC-TOC
I WATCH A BEETLE CRAWLING PAST MY SHOE
I GET UP QUICK TO PACE AROUND
MY APARTMENT, MY HEAD BENT DOWN
THEN STOP TO WATCH A TRAIN ROLL BY
A LONG, RELENTLESS TRAIN ROLL BY
A BOMB IN THE BOX...
A BOMB IN THE BOX...
A BOMB IN THE BOX
WOULD BLOW MY WORLD AWAY

A BLUE BEGONIA
05:43
|
|||
A Blue Begonia
I’m bringing to you
A blue begonia
One that will sit on your
Red kitchen table
Below your yellow
Kitchen’s bay window
And where the morning sun
Comes shining through
And I’m stepping tiptoed
Out of a dark place
Darker than red here
Where I’m stepping out of
Facing my bugaboos one by one
On my way to you
And where the morning sun
Comes shining through
And through the window
Beyond a plum tree
Into the blue sky
Where one Brilliant White Cloud
Goes drifting by…
And in the blue sky
Clear and unconfused
A blue begonia for you
Now as we sit here
The flower, you and I
And watch as this brilliant white cumulus
Goes drifting by
In wonderment that there was ever
A doubt under this sky
And where the morning sun
Comes shining through

DOG IN A DROUGHT
03:42
|
|||
A DOG IN A DROUGHT
I ONCE HAD A DOG
HIS NAME WAS JIM
EARLY ONE SUMMER MORNING
ME AND JIM ON OUR WAY FOR A SWIM
WALKIN’ TO THE RIVER
WELL, JIM TENDIN’ TO RUN
‘CAUSE A DOG IS A DOG
AND A DOG LOVES TO RUN
JIM RUNNIN IN CIRCLES
ON HIS WAY FOR A SWIM
BUT WHEN WE GOT TO THE RIVER
WE FOUND THE RIVER NEAR TO DRY
A TRICKLE IN A CRACKED MUD BED
UNDER A NAKED SKY
SO WE SET IN THE SHADE
OF AN OLD OAK TREE
SLAPPIN’ AT MOSQUITOES
AND SCRATCHIN' AT FLEAS
ON OUR WAY BACK HOME
IT WAS HALF PAST NOON
WE WERE HOT, WE WERE THIRSTY
NEEDED WATER, WATER SOON
BUT THE DEAD WATER FOUNTAIN
IN THE PARCHED PLAY FIELD
STOOD TESTIMONY TO THE TRUTH
OF A DRY ORDEAL
THAT EVENING ON THE PORCH
ME AND JIM HOT AND TIRED
WATCHED THE SUN GOIN’ DOWN
SET THE MOUNTAINS ON FIRE
AND WE WONDERED ‘BOUT OUR FUTURE
WOULD TOMORROW BE BETTER
AS THE SUN WENT DOWN
AND THE SKY GOT REDDER
SO JIM LOOKED AT ME
AND I LOOKED JIM
I SAID JIM, THERE AIN’T NO TELLIN
WHEN WE’LL BE GOIN SWIMMIN AGAIN
WELL, JIM JUST SIGHED AND MOANED
ALL FLOPPED DOWN AND LOOKIN’ DONE
‘CAUSE A DOG IS A DOG
AND A DOG IN A DROUGHT
A DOG IN A DROUGHT WITH HIS TONGUE HANGIN’ OUT

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS
02:37
|
|||
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION
I am considering
Possible material
Material potential
We must consider this
Will it groove into place
Not just fill up the space
Will it be an elephant
Cruising through abstractions
Picture nowhere in place
What we call ethereal
Where there’s not much material
We must consider this
Now we groove into place
Not just fill up the space
Use your vision, hallucinate
Follow the instructions
So in this world we are
Color it mechanical
Magical material
We must consider this
We don’t know how it works
Get in and go to work
Use your vision, hallucinate
Follow the instructions

SWEET ON YOU
05:16
|
|||
SWEET ON YOU
Picture this if you can
We’ve got a woman
And we’ve got a man
The woman’s up in a window
Making a precious profile
By a warm yellow light
The man’s down in the street
Looking up, shivering in the cold wet night
So, he climbs up a drain pipe to her window
And he tps on the glass
The woman gets up, starts to walk away
And the man’s left longing for her sweet blooming ass
And he cries out “let me get
Sweet on you
“I don’t want to be weird
I don’t wanna be no stranger
I just want to wrap you in my arms, baby
there is know danger
“I don’t wanna go to far
No further than you are
I’m not trying to be wayout
I just want to hang about
Sweet on you
“So, let’s get down to the facts
I think I know where you’re at
Yes, I want to bite your neck
But good god, I’m no vampire bat
“I just wanna wrap you in my arms
And do the shake
You see a fly
Buzzing around your piece of cake
Sweet on you
“Now, last night in my laboratory
Applying and exportice in chemistry
I mixed a drop of you with a drop of me
Then peering through my microscope
I could see my hand actually caressing
Your beautiful butt

TODAY IS SATURDAY

TODAY IS SATURDAY
It’s Saturday and I’m leaving
I’m going home
I’m leaving on a jet plane
Saturday and my love is waving
Goodbye, goodbye
I’m leaving on a jet plane
I’ll be home on Sunday
But today is Saturday
Yesterday was so hard
Pain without a door
Packing up my suitcase
Pain without a floor
Yesterday is over now
Today is Saturday
I’ve grown accustomed to the fear
Accustomed to the pain
Without you in my life
My life won’t be the same
I can feel you touch me
In the special way you do
Where will my life be
When I’m out from under you
Saturday
I’m going home
I’m leaving on a jet plane
Saturday and my love is waving
Goodbye
I’m leaving on a jet plane
I’ll be home tomorrow
But today is Saturda

BAREBACK LADY
03:31
|
|||
BAREBACK WOMAN
Bareback lady
She drove gave my town it’s name
Riding bareback, butt naked
Down the old cobblestone lanes
Now, some of us cried from windows
From pubs some of us poured
All bubbly and babble
To fill the streets, we poured
Where with dazzling exposures
And dignity intact
She tore my town to ribbons
Riding naked and bareback
Bareback lady
Right there without no shame
Riding bareback, butt naked
Down the old cobblestone lanes
Now, stupidity is cold blooded
The ignoramus enormous
And the drool that hangs down from its chin
Was dangling over us
And the wind was cold and biting
And the daylight all a glare
As the fat fingers of ignorance
Ran through her golden hair
And bareback lady
Not a lady painted blind
As she welcomes all to feel her truth
And all to drink your wine
So my flesh broke out in goosebumps
And my hairs all stood on end
As we witnessed truth unfolding
To take that dummy in
Somebody cried “hallelujah”
Another ”glory be”
As we witnessed truth unfolding
For the whole damn crowd to see
And it dawned upon the populace
And the band began to play
As we witnessed truth unfolding
To have it’s say that day
Bareback lady
Uncensored and outloud
Perched steady on her white steed
Pronouncing to the crowd
Bareback lady
As the town bells rang
Riding bareback, butt naked
Down the old cobblestone lanes

BETWEEN THE COME AND GO
Somewhere between the come and go
We come, we go.
Where do we go? Who are we?
And where do we come from?
Somewhere between the come and go
Life plays its tricks; in the twinkle of an eye
And pulled like a rabbit from a top hat
And vanishing in a wink
The sudden moment we were waiting for
Somewhere between the come and go it’s gone
And in her White and black
Dress comes Wendy
Wendy laughing, Wendy happening
Wendy on the cusp of time
Later in the sand our footprints
She went her way, I went mine
Sometimes you see it, sometimes you don’t
Sometime she will, sometimes she won’t
We reap what we sow
Somewhere between the come and go
And in her blue and red
Buick, Mona
Mona crying, Mona hysterical
Mona driving way too fast
Later on the pavement skid marks
Crushed flowers and broken glass
Sometimes you see it, sometimes you don’t
Sometimes she will, sometimes she won’t
We reap what we sow
Somewhere between the come and go
And in her green, see-through
Nightgown comes Wanda
Wanda fading, Wanda invisible
Wanda’s empty see-through gown
Later in my scrapbook headlines:
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

WRONG SIDE UP
05:15
|

WRONG SIDE UP
FROM YESTERDAY’S NEWS
TO THESE INSTANT INTERNET VAPORS
THE FACT STATED IN BOOKS
CONCLUDED IN RESEARCH PAPERS:
THE TOP IS THE BOTTOM
THE BOTTOM’S ON TOP
LET THE STEAM WHISTLE DADDY
‘TIL THE WEASEL POPS
WRONG SIDE UP
UPSIDE DOWN
CAN’T GET UP
UPSIDE DOWN
NOW THEN THERE
THE WORLD AIN’T FLAT
AND IT’S HARD TO PIN DOWN
BUT YOU CAN TOSS A COIN
AND WATCH IT SPIN AROUND
WILL IT LAND HEADS UP
OR WIND UP FACE DOWN?
iT’S EASY TO GET DIZZY
IT’S HARD TO COME AROUND
IT’S EASY TO GET DIZZY
IT’S HARD TO COME DOWN
WHEN THE WRONG SIDE’S UP
AND THE UPSIDE IS DOWN
YOU CAN’T GET UP
WHEN THE UPSIDE IS DOWN
AND A SMILE’S A FROWN
WHEN IT’S UPSIDE DOWN
AND BAD AIN’T GOOD
UNTIL IT’S UNDERSTOOD
NOW, FLAPJACK MILLY
AND SPATULA SAM
WERE MAKING LOVE
IN TOPSY-TURVY LAND
WHERE IT’S KINDA TRICKY
AND IT AIN’T NO CINCH
IF YOU GET CONFUSED
AND WIND UP IN A PINCH
IF YOU GET CONFUSED
AND WIND UP IN A PINCH
IF YOU GET CONFUSED
YOU WIND UP IN A PINCH
WITH YOUR WRONG SIDE’S UP
AND YOUR UPSIDE DOWN
AND YOU CAN’T GET UP
WHEN THE UPSIDE’S DOWN
AND A SMILE IS A FROWN
UPSIDE DOWN
AND BAD AIN’T GOOD
UNTIL IT’S UNDERSTOOD
SO, GOD SAID TO NOAH
“BUILD ME AN ARK
‘CAUSE THERE’S A GREAT FLOOD A COMIN’
AND DAYS OF DARK
GATHER TWO BY TWO
EVERY KIND A FLESH
GET ‘EM ALL ON BOARD
I’M ABOUT TO DROWN THE REST”
GET ‘EM ALL ON BOARD
I’M ABOUT TO DROWN THE REST
